Yorkshire in the spotlight once again!

Yorkshire in the spotlight once again!

Last weekend saw the second annual Tour de Yorkshire and once again it was great to see our beautiful county in the spotlight.

From Beverley to Settle on day one, through the stunning Yorkshire Wolds. The women’s race on day two from Otley to Doncaster, followed by the grand finale in Scarborough on Sunday, starting in Middlesbrough and taking in the spectacular Yorkshire Moors National Park.

Despite some inclement weather, in true Yorkshire style the crowds were out in force and spirits were not dampened (even if clothes were) proving that, come rain or shine, the cycling event has staked its claim in the county’s hearts.

My family and I were lucky enough to see the peloton at the Cote de Blakey Ridge. After spending the night camping at nearby Cropton, we were up and out early enough to claim a prime position next to the summit.

As the crowds gathered, excitement mounted until the leading pair made a sprint to the summit (at unbelievable speed given the huge climb to the top of the ridge). The rest of the riders were in hot pursuit, followed by one or two stragglers.

Although it was all over in flash, we made a day of it with a picnic and a walk over the beautiful moorland. The sun even made an appearance!

With such a diverse landscape, stunning scenery, beautiful towns, and villages and vibrant cities, we can’t wait to see which parts of Yorkshire will be in the spotlight at the same time next year.
