There’s no business like show business
Whether you come from a farming background or not, there’s nothing like a good agricultural show to bring you closer to nature and remind you what life’s all about. So if you’re in and around Yorkshire this month, you’re in for a real treat.
July is the month for county and agricultural shows to be held, and with harvest around the corner it’s a chance for many in the farming community to socialise before the busy harvest months begin.
So we thought we’d give you a rundown of some of the shows in ‘Gods own county’ to help you plan your visits.
The Great Yorkshire Show, 9th-11th July
This will be the 155th Great Yorkshire Show. The show is the biggest agricultural show in the UK and after the disappointment of the show being cancelled after the first day last year, the organisers have been working hard to make sure the weather will not disrupt proceedings this year.
Malton Show, 14th July
Another long-standing show this year celebrating its 127th year. Held at Scampston Park, Malton Show has plenty for all the family to do and see including live music, a dog display team, a farmers market, crafts, livestock and much, much, more.
Driffield Show, 17th July
The show is one of the biggest one-day agricultural events in the country and it has lots to shout about. From fantastic main ring displays including the heavy horses, the much-loved fur and feathers tent, fantastic crafts and stalls, and delicious local food, there’s so much on offer.
Bishop Wilton Show, 20th July
The 115th Bishop Wilton Show will be taking place on the 20th July and hosting its usual half marathon along with equestrian competitions and other activities throughout the day.
So whether you’re a regular show-goer, or if you’ve never been to an agricultural show before, there really is something for everyone.
