Slow growing spuds
At the end of April, when we planted our seed potatoes during a perfect weekend of planting weather, we were hoping that perfect growing weather would follow. But as always with the British weather, you never know quite what to expect…
Unfortunately, the cold winds have really stunted progress and our spuds are growing at a snail’s pace. In fact, reports suggest that they’re about three weeks later than usual.
Looking on the bright side, at least things aren’t as bad as they were back in 2012. That year spring time was so rainy that we didn’t get our seed potatoes in the ground until mid June!
Now, with the forecasters promising a couple of weeks of warm weather, with the occasional spell of rainfall, our crop will hopefully have chance to catch up.
We’ll keep you posted!
