Roe Deer…. or no deer?
What a beautiful morning it was today. The sun was blazing for a change (hooray!) and on the crisp sunny morning as I got into the car, the birds were in full song. What a pleasure to the senses! Driving into work over the Yorkshire Wolds, there was frost on the ground, mist over the Wolds and even better, I saw a stoat on hind legs closer than I’ve seen on other occasions. I couldn’t resist stopping at some of our fields to take a photo of the snow on the ground, the bright green of our winter barley field and a vivid blue sky.
To my wonder and amazement, a bit further up the field, there was a roe deer eating some of our barley! With not a moment to spare and armed only with my iphone (blast, typical that my slr with zoom lens was not in the car today of all days) I climbed over the fence and traipsed halfway across our biggest field (aptly named “big field”) in my office shoes and pin stripe trousers. Hmmmm.
Stalking the deer with enthusiasm, I climbed over another fence into the wood, back again over some barbed wire, then.. suddenly… 4 of them. Jumping and bounding over the field towards the dale. This is the result…. Okay, so I’m no David Attenborough and I’ll certainly not be giving up my day job. In fact, some of our team have, between hoots of laughter, even claimed that they can’t see them. Can you?
