New homes on the Wolds
We have recently had a number of bird boxes made to put up around the farm and since this week, 14th-21st February, is National Nest Box Week it seemed the ideal time to start putting them up.
We have selected a number of different types of nest boxes to help encourage all the bird population around the farm, from the large owl nest boxes and the open fronted boxes which are preferred by kestrels to the small nest boxes which are ideal for smaller species such as the tit and sparrow families.
We have worked with a number of different specialists over the years to help us with things like this. They advise on all sorts of different projects around the farm which we hope will encourage the various flora and fauna to flourish. Some of these are done as part of the various stewardship initiatives that we have now been involved with for 20 years.
At the moment, we are waiting for an advisor from the RSPB who will advise on the best locations around the farm to situate these nest boxes so that they are used as much as possible by the different bird species.
So with all this choice hopefully this year our friend Willie Wagtail might choose a slightly safer place to nest.
