Good riddance to summer!
We love Autumn! There, we’ve said it. Please don’t think too badly of us.
We love the crisp, cool mornings. We love the blindingly sunny days and the dark nights. We love the reds, the browns, the yellows and the russets of autumn leaves. It’s fascinating to watch the countryside turn quickly from the pale yellows and golden of harvest to the brown and dark greens of the next season. Okay, so we don’t much like the rain but that’s just all part of the fun, isn’t it?
After the hustle bustle of harvest time, especially this year when a sufficient number of consecutive dry days were few and far between, there’s something calming about this time of year. You can begin to take your warm clothes out of hibernation. It’s too early to get too stressed about the C word (please don’t tell us you’ve already done your Christmas shopping). There’s the harvest festival, Halloween and our favourite, Bonfire Night.
Unsurprisingly in the Bannisters’ household, Bonfire Night means piping hot jacket potatoes, huddling in front of a warm fire, family and, of course, fireworks.
So please don’t feel too mournful about the passing of British summertime, she’ll be back, and in the meantime enjoy everything there is to love about autumn.
