Are you salt aware?
This week is Salt Awareness Week (29th February – 6th March) and although we all need a little bit of salt in our diets, we’re constantly being told by the media, that too much salt is bad for our health.
According to a report by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition, reducing salt intake can reduce that chances of having high blood pressure, which it turn can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death.
The Government recommends that adults consume no more than 6g of salt per day, with recommended amounts for children on a sliding scale of less than 1 gram per day for 0-6 month olds to 5 grams per day for 7-10 year olds.
Our Ready Baked Potatoes and Littl’uns Small Baked Potatoes contain no added salt but it’s important to be aware of the salt content of toppings and accompaniments.
You can find lots of information on this year’s Salt Awareness Week on the Consensus Action on Salt & Health website. The British Heart Foundation site also has lots of useful information about healthy eating and reducing salt in your diet.
